I am looking for a farm to rent/purchase to start an organic dairy goat farm.

Worked on a farm

Description of farming experience

I have worked in the horse industry on and off for about 30 years as a stable hand/care-taker. I owned and operated a small horse boarding business out of a leased barn that I recently closed to be able to focus on my dairy goats. I currently work on an organic, grass-fed dairy farm and help with the maple sugaring operation. I have a flock of laying hens as well.

Tenure arrangement desired

Farm transfer

Tenure arrangement description

I would love to find a property that provides the space and freedom for me to properly care for and grow my dairy goat herd. I am open to discuss anything that will potentially allow me to find my forever farm.

Planned farm enterprise: Primary

Dairy

Planned farm enterprises: Others

Forest/Foraging, Livestock

Farm enterprises description

I will be raising and milking organic dairy goats to sell bulk to Vermont Creamery. I am would also like to be able to sell raw milk directly to customers. My goats will be rotationally grazed and kept on an extended lactation program to minimize the number of kids born.

Farmer housing needed

Yes

Water source needed

Yes

Farm infrastructure needed

  • Barn/farm buildings
  • Fencing
  • Electricity/power

Description of infrastructure needed

Safe housing for goats, chickens and horses. The ability to make changes to existing buildings to accommodate the animals safely and effectively. I can install fencing, but will need the freedom to make fence lines as needed.

Access to equipment needed

No

Over grown/shrubby new growth wooded areas would be great, goats are browsers so access to this type of forage is ideal. The farm does not need to be fancy or perfect, as long as the buildings are structurally sound and I can make changes for the proper care of my animals. Electricity will be needed to run the bulk tanks, fencers and water heaters in the winter.
