Description of farming experience
My partner and I are new to farming. We will be applying to the beginning farmers program and would like to learn slowly on our own land. We sold our house and are currently looking to buy a farm. In the meantime, as we are from out of state, we are looking for a home to rent in Vermont, preferably on a farm where we can learn and gain experience. We are interested in regenerative agriculture and community engagement, seeking to create a space for community events and to become engaged stewards of both land and community. Our dog Hercules and our cat Ostara are excited to become farmers as well.

We are ideally looking to purchase farmland outright, but would be interested in renting farmland while we do our search.

Farm enterprises description
We are interested in a mix of pasture and woodland that will allow experimentation with a variety of farming styles. We would like to have a small, varied collection of animals to assist us in land management, potentially 2 horses, two cows, two goats, a few alpacas or sheep, chickens, ducks, and perhaps pigs. We would like to have enough pasture and Silvopasture to support this. Our primary interest is in creating value added products from the things we cultivate on our land, as well as tree fruits and nuts. We would like to grow vegetables primarily for our own use and for the creation of products. We would like to tap maple trees and experiment with many projects.

Business planning description
The exploration of properties has been shaping our ideas and I think it would be impossible to truly create a business plan without knowing the land we are going to be working with. Since we are also looking for our home, there are many variables that impact which property we end up with. Most of our current ideas have been shaped by a farm we fell in love with but did not end up getting. We are looking forward to working more on our business plan in the beginning farmers program as well as through conversations during our search for our land.

Farm infrastructure needed
Description of infrastructure needed
We would like for our home to be on the land and have electricity (can be off grid). We prefer not to have a lot of infrastructure but some infrastructure that suits our vision is a plus. Springs and water sources are our most important consideration as well as distance from busy roads. We are not big on equipment, preferring to do things by hand or with the help of animals and simple machines.

Additional information
We are searching for a magical place that we can lovingly steward in a way that regenerates and nourishes. A place where we can learn and grow into the farmers and community members we strive to be. We hope to become the stewards of land that has been lived by people whose visions somehow lead naturally into our own. We like forward to discovering this magical place and loving it completely.
