A flower garden with many different flowers including white daisies with yellow centers, anise hyssop flowers that are tall with purple spiky flowers, and black eyed susan flowers with yellow petals and black centers. Description of farming experience

I have been gardening for over 30 years and am certified as a home horticulturalist through the UVM Extension Master Gardener program. I have the same credentials as a Master Gardener but didn't have time for the volunteer hours to get the Master Gardener title. Currently using my suburban home and community growing plot to grow for my own enjoyment and experimentation with floral crops. I don't have enough space or the right terrain to fully begin a cut flower business in my current setting.

Would like to try my hand at floral farming. Seeking 1-5 open acres (a greenhouse/high tunnel onsite would be ideal but not required) with access to water to lease or other collaborative arrangement short term (1-2 years) to begin. Would use any associated structures available for floral drying, but not essential. Land needs to be in Chittenden County as this work will be a side gig while I still work full-time. Eventually hope to turn the side gig into a business big enough to keep me busy and happy in retirement. Need to be able to access land early mornings/evenings/weekends.

Cut flowers/bouquets, plant starts, potted herbs, possibly houseplants with hyperlocal focus. Deeply devoted to Vermont and hyperlocal values and seek to bring others joy through flowers and plants. Committed to organic type growing without pesticides or synthetic fertilizer but do not plan to pursue certification at this time. In addition to cut flowers, would likely grow plants for individual enjoyment like small potted herbs, flower and vegetable starts, and houseplants depending on available facilities. Local markets/businesses and direct to consumer as planned customer base.

Description of infrastructure needed

Would like a high tunnel/hoophouse/greenhouse or infrastructure or permission to put temporary greenhouse/hoophouse onsite needed for seedling/flower starts. Water source needed. Would potentially pursue year round flower growing depending on availability of electricity. Open space and full sun exposure for outdoor flower crops and watering source needed.

I'm a PhD scientist currently working full-time in healthcare management. Planning my exit from the workforce and retirement plan and would like to be a small scale grower whose products bring joy to others. Trying out as a "side gig" to start and hopefully grow to full-time within several years. Growing lets me integrate my scientific skills into growing to experiment, problem solve, and scale. My spouse has a business degree and will participate on the business side. Adult children with farming experience who are local may join in venture if successful. This is an experiment!
