Tenure arrangement description

We bring more than six years of hands-on experience in diversified vegetable production, CSA management, farmers markets, wholesale sales, and farm business development. We founded and operate Bright Thread Farm, a small diversified farm in northwest Washington, and have experience managing certified organic production, food safety, crop planning, irrigation, soil health, and farm infrastructure. Our background also includes incubator farming, agricultural conservation planning, grant-funded farm projects, and working directly with farmers on water, climate, and land stewardship.

Farm enterprises description

We plan to build a diversified farm centered on intensive vegetable production, fruit and orchard crops, and integrated livestock. Our goal is to combine market gardening with perennial systems, rotational grazing, and soil-building practices that improve long-term resilience. We expect to sell through a mix of CSA, farmers markets, farm stand, and wholesale accounts, while developing the farm gradually in response to the land, local markets, and community needs.

Business planning description

We have experience developing farm budgets, crop plans, production goals, market strategies, and infrastructure priorities for diversified farming operations. Our planning approach is practical and phased, with an emphasis on controlling debt, matching production to proven markets, and investing in infrastructure as the business grows. We are developing a multi-year plan that combines off-farm income with expanding farm revenue, while building toward a financially sustainable operation that can support our family and future employees.

Description of infrastructure needed

We are looking for land with reliable water, suitable soils, and enough open ground for intensive vegetable and perennial production. Existing housing is strongly preferred, along with a barn, shop, greenhouse or high-tunnel space, equipment storage, and basic livestock infrastructure. We are open to improving a property over time, but access to water, power, roads, and functional farm buildings would make a transition much easier. Space for washing, packing, cold storage, and potential future staff or family housing would also be valuable.

Access to equipment needed

No

We are looking for more than acreage—we are hoping to find a place where our family can settle for the long term and become part of a strong rural community. We are especially interested in opportunities where there is a thoughtful path for the next generation of farmers, whether through a conventional sale, gradual transition, lease-to-own, or another creative arrangement. We value clear communication, good relationships, and continuity, and would welcome conversations with landowners who care about what happens to their farm after they step away.
