Description of farming experience

Andy has five years of experience in diversified organic vegetable farms and two years growing apples and mushrooms. In 2023 they completed the UVM Farmer Training Program and stayed on the following season as an educator. In 2025 they completed the Holistic Orchard Apprenticeship at Lost Nation Orchard where they learned how to manage an organic community scale apple tree operation.

Via is a fermenter and grower. She has worked at organic vegetable and fruit farms as well as native plant nurseries for two growing seasons. Before farming she worked as a brewer. She is a naturalist with a passion for native plants, and a willow weaver.

Our long-term vision is to build a communal food and living project, based around a substantial vegetable garden and fruit orchard with chickens and possibly other livestock. Purchase would be preferable but we are certainly open to other possibilities.

Farm enterprises description

Diverse food production is a priority for us. We want to lean heavily on mixed vegetables and fruit with laying hens and some agroforestry mushroom cultivation. We also plan to host a large compost site to build soil, we hope neighbors, local food establishments, and livestock farmers will contribute food scraps and manure. Our hope is to grow enough food for ourselves and to sell or distribute in the community small-scale. Additionally we plant to make herbal medicines (teas, tinctures, salves).

Business planning description

Our short-term business plan is to work with other people on their land, helping to grow food and establish and maintain wild corridors for animals and pollinators.

Long-term we would love to own a piece of land and pursue these goals in accordance with our vision. To generate revenue we plan to sell mixed fruit and veg as well as host workshops. We'd also love to sell value-added products and will need a commercial kitchen setup.

Description of infrastructure needed

Greenhouse would be ideal for plant starts. Fencing would be nice for veg and fruit production but if not in place we can build. Would love to eventually rely on solar for electricity and be off the grid. Commercial kitchen or clean space to brew cider / ferment vegetables would be a huge benefit as we are looking to begin production as soon as possible. Tractor not necessary but would be helpful.
