Farm management experience

Description of farming experience

I have several years of experience managing a small farm with 18 sheep, using my Border Collies for herding. I practice rotational grazing to keep the land healthy and productive. I have rotationally grazed under my mentor for three years, and am currently employing the practice at my rented farm.

In addition, I run a dog boarding and training business where I offer personalized care for dogs, ensuring they receive attention and structure.

My goal is to expand both the farm and business, creating a sustainable environment that benefits both animals and people. I’m passionate about farming, animal husbandry, and providing a structured, hands-on experience for dogs.

Tenure arrangement desired

Farm transfer

Tenure arrangement description

I am interested in lease-to-own, leasing, sale (if not too expensive), or any other arrangement that allows me to live and work the land at my leisure. My long-term goal is to own a large farm with a substantial flock of sheep. However, to get there, I need a small piece of land that will allow me to develop my flock, train my dogs, and grow my dog training business all in one place. This will help me consolidate operations and stop running all over the place. I'm open to various options that help me achieve a sustainable and efficient farming and business model.

Farm enterprises description

My farm currently focuses on sheep farming and dog training. I manage a flock of 18 sheep, using rotational grazing practices to ensure land health and promote sustainable farming.

I also train my Border Collies for herding, participating in sheepdog trials and using them to work the flock. Alongside the farm, I run a dog boarding and training business, providing personalized care and structured training for dogs.

My goal is to expand both the farm and my business, creating a space where I can raise sheep, train dogs, and offer a variety of services, all in one sustainable location.

Farm infrastructure needed

  • Barn/farm buildings
  • Fencing
  • Electricity/power

Description of infrastructure needed

To expand the farm-based training and herding services, Green Paws requires simple but functional infrastructure to support a small sheep operation. A secure barn, reliable fencing, and utilities will enable year-round care, rotational grazing, and hands-on dog training integrated with livestock. These facilities are essential to maintain animal welfare, host educational events, and grow specialized training programs tied to the working farm.

I bring my own electric net fencing, chargers and ground rods. For the dog training, I would need to install a semi-permanent fence structure - preferably about an acre and a round pen with a diameter of about 70 feet.

Access to equipment needed

Description of equipment needed

Anything that is available, if there is anything available.

A tractor to mow, pull fences, move sheds would be ideal

A small lawn mower to mow fence lines

Hole Digger

Green Paws is seeking a small farm property to expand its one-of-a-kind, relationship-based dog training and livestock program. I currently operate a low-volume, high-touch boarding and training service from my home in Essex Junction, and maintain a working flock of 18 North Country Cheviot sheep for herding and educational events. I'm looking for a property where I can live, care for my animals, and host clients for real-life, farm-based training experiences. My goal is to build a quiet, well-managed space that promotes calm, connection, and hands-on learning—for both dogs and humans.
