Hearts' Ease Farm is in Danville village. I am looking for folks who are interested in community, permaculture, small scale market gardens and livestock. I am interested in all aspects of sustainable land management, though I do not forsee being the primary farmer as I have a separate profession as a nurse. My dream is to eventually offer therapeutic/educational services of some kind to the community combined with CSA/market gardens. The location is ideal for someone who wants to have a market garden and sell at the Farmers Market on the Green, plus easy access to the year round market in St Jay. Within walking distance are restaurants, dentist, vet, grocery store, health center, library, Danville School (K-12), 3 churches and Rt 2 and I-91 are only minutes away.
There are several acres of open, level land, with some raised garden beds, an old orchard and the rest as pasture, last grazed 3 years ago by goats and horses. Perimeter fencing of board/wire needs some repair/completion, but extends around much of the property with gates. Much of the land is wooded, with some marshy open areas which might be seasonally appropriate for pasture. There is a pond, in need of maintenance, about 1/3 of an acre in size and a brook running through a cedar woods on the edge of the fields. The forested areas are mixed hard and soft woods, in need of management/thinning as this hasn't been done in many years. Old hiking/snowshoe trails extend through the property and connect to a community trail/snowmobile network. The VT railtrail is less than a mile away, offering an 8 mile route to St J and westward towards Hardwick and beyond, as sections are completed. Eventually this trail will be 93 miles in length, extending across the state from St J to Swanton.
The spacious 5 bedroom farmhouse shared with the owner, provides a mix of private bedrooms/bath and shared dining room, kitchen, living room and laundry. The large 3 story barn is in need of restoration, but currently usable with plans to gradually repair/restore as resources allow.
