Quality of land:

We have grown organic grain on the farm for eight years, certified organic by NOFA-VT and have had some good crops of rye and barley. There is a 24 acre field below the house and six acres around the courtyard of green barns. The soils include Buckland fine sandy loam, Cabot silt loam, Peacham muck, Vershire-Glover complex, and Vershire-Lombard complex. All of the fields are flat or gently rolling. A 1.5 hour (round trip) walk or cross country ski does down the edge of the field and into the woods to Esdon Brook. The trails in the woods connect to Isa's adjoining land to the east and the three miles of marked and mapped trails that Isa has made. We have permission from the State of Vermont and Vermont Land Trust to clear six more acres of the woods to cropland. All power and telephone lines are underground.

Additional Information

This is a beautiful farm, with a high elevation and long views to the south. As the steward, I thought that I would be here forever, but am leaving to build a grain center on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh.

This is a friendly neighborhood, Caspian Lake & beach, Barr Hill, Willey's Store, Craftsbury & the Outdoor Center, and Hardwick nearby. Burlington is 1.5 hours, Montpelier 50 minutes, Derby and the Quebec border 45 minutes, Boston 4 hours. Dairy farms and a beef cattle farm hay the fields by the farm.
