Farmer Profile for Ivy Pagliari

Please describe your past and/or present farming experience

I have eight years of experience in New England working on small to medium sized cow dairy farms for raw, artisan cheese and organic producers. I also spent four years in the Midwest growing small grains for human consumption using draft animal power. I have experience training and working oxen and driving draft horses. I have spent a little bit of time sugaring and raising chickens for eggs and bees for honey.

Do you have a business plan? Please write an informative description of your vision & goals for your farming future.

I am looking for a property where I can have one or two teams of draft animals for a business that offers live power services, hay rides, sleigh rides, Christmas tree harvest, custom logging, education, and potentially waste pickup in the style of Draft Trash from Middlebury Vermont. Initially (or not only initially) this would be a side business to my current off-farm job. I would also be happy to help on an existing farm in some sort of exchange for living there with my animals. I would appreciate the ability to do some homesteading on the side and am also open to expanding into producing an agricultural product. However, in the past I have encountered all the trickyness that goes along with trying to keep a small farm a profitable enterprise without off farm income, so I have moved away from that being my end goal.
