Please describe your past and/or present farming experience
Founded in 2022, Linden Hill Ranch raises Katahdin hair sheep to supply premium lamb to ethnic markets in nearby metropolitan areas. We are a small but growing operation with 46 head on 38 owned acres in a low-input, holistically managed, high-density rotational system for increasing soil health and ecosystem diversity. We are growing the operation to provide full-time sustainable income from selling our sheep and from complementary pasture and forest-based ventures.

OUR MISSION: Linden Hill Ranch grazes livestock to renew degraded landscapes and to provide nutrient-dense food for local consumers. ~*~*~*~ OUR VISION: Rich soil, fragrant with humus, teeming with microbial and fungal life. Plant litter and abundant organic soil carbon mitigates soil temperature fluctuation and holds water even through long dry periods. ~*~*~ A diverse polyculture of native and seeded grasses, legumes and forbs provides nutritional balance for ruminants while inviting wild birds, small mammals and beneficial insects including butterflies, honeybees and other pollinators. ~*~*~ Large and small ruminants (sheep and eventually cattle) fully express their nature as a life-giving disturbance on the landscape, naturally building soil while raising their young. ~*~*~ A healthy human community: our family nourished and sustained by the enhanced fertility of the soil and sharing the abundance of our land through the meat we sell to our community. ~*~*~ Adjacent forest land and windbreaks provide the habitat for wildlife while mitigating temperature and wind across the pasture. Single tree and cluster harvesting of timber promotes forest health while supplying fuel, materials for building, and marketable products. Sap from Maple trees provides yet another product for the benefit of our community. ~*~*~ We share the joy of life in harmony with the land through community events, farm stays, educational programs and other agrotourism activities. ~*~*~
