Do you have a business plan? Please write an informative description of your vision & goals for your farming future.
For the last year I have been starting my own business helping property owners establish farm systems and sustainable homesteads. I specialize in beautifying properties using my experience working in commercial plant propagation and formal garden management. My goal is to help people grow food and rehabilitate land on a large scale. Ultimately, I would like to find a local farm owner who needs someone to takeover and revitalize their farm business. My partner and I are hoping to find a base operation to be a source for examples of ecologically beneficial landscape designs. Ideally, this location could be public access farm trust land that will be a resource for the local community to see firsthand the benefits of implementing landscape designs. These designs are specific in their goal to provide food and habitat for livestock, humans, and wildlife. I have lived in Burlington, Waitsfield, Charlotte and currently in Richmond where our lease is set to end on April 1st. I would like to be a member of a community that has a need for an educational center like the farm I envision creating. Ideally, this farm would be in a location where potential clients who want to implement an ecological landscape design can come to see how they look esthetically and how they work functionally. It could also be a place for people to train and practice stewarding the land. I plan to use my skills in design and landscaping to make income off sight, as well as use the showcase gardens as a source for stocking a plant nursery. If I were able to get enough acreage for grazing, I would love to use my experience with livestock to showcase the benefits of regenerative animal agriculture. As a start up, I could start with as small as a ¼ acre property to showcase how realistic ecological design can be.
