Please describe your past and/or present farming experience
We have been actively searching for a larger piece of more protected land, preferably an existing organic farm and home, to do larger scale permaculture with fruits, veggies and medicinal herbs, and also expand our Nigerian Dwarf goat and Holland Lop programs. Ideally, we are looking to purchase a farm in Chittenden county - ideally in the towns of Charlotte, Hinesburg, Huntington or Richmond, but are also interested in Starksboro, Monkton, Stowe, Waitsfield and possibly a little farther out. We live in South Burlington on about 12 acres and raise ADGA registered Nigerian Dwarf goats and Holland Lops. We have been expanding our homestead and breeding program for almost nine years now. We are about to bring in chickens again, as well as Ancona ducks. We have many years of experience with raising and rearing goats, rabbits and poultry and also with small scale growing via permaculture and organic methods. We have been looking for a bigger, more remote place for years, and have consulted with permaculture specialists as well in our search for land. We would be consulting with them again to help us figure out all the fruit and nut tree plantings and permaculture infrastructure and design (probably a pond), and work that we would want to put into an existing infrastructure. Our goal would be to not only utilize but improve all of the pastures and land through permaculture methods - using the land for growing food, medicinal plants and herbs, and grazing with our goats and ducks/chickens. We utilize manure for our many projects - it is key to what we do here. I picture large fields of veggies and also medicinal plants such as lavender, echinacea, calendula - lots of elderberry bushes and much more. Also blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. We are also looking into offering traditional foods classes based on Weston Price Foundation teachings, and possibly animal therapy programs in the future. Our farm website is www.sweetmeadowsvt.com. We are open to smaller acreage 20+, but are ideally looking for larger parcels. *TWO THINGS! 1) We are ONLY interested in strictly organically managed or organic-certified land, so please do not email if it has not been managed that way. 2) Also, it needs to be within 30-45 minutes of South Burlington as we have strong ties here. Thank you!!
