Farmer Profile for Jedidiah Larabee

Co-Applicant / Spouse Name

Stephanie Larabee

Please describe your past and/or present farming experience

I grew up on a 524 acre Farm in Northwest Missouri for 18 years, farming row crop, hay, cattle, poultry gardening, and pigs. I worked on both grandparents Farms and many others as a hired hand. My father got out of farming so I joined the Marine Corps. I am currently still in the Marine Corps until Sept 2023 retirement. Presently I only have chickens for eggs. I have been studying the Joel Salitin method of farming for sustainable agriculture. I would like to find a mixture of land with half pasture half woods.

Do you have a business plan? Please write an informative description of your vision & goals for your farming future.

Currently I do not have a business plan drafted up. My vision is first to be a microbe farmer, building top soil by sequestering carbon. I will accomplish this through closely managing rotational grazing with ruminant animals. I will have diversity on the landscape and not just one thing that the farm grows. I want to provide quality food to people in the local community. I have had a passion for working outdoors my entire life. I want to be a steward of the land and leave it better than I received. It is very important to me and my wife that my 5 kids experience the quality of life on the farm. There is no better place to raise a family. I am against using any type chemicals/hormones on the farm. If nature doesn't provide it then I don't need it. Know your farmer is what I believe in that is important to consumers. I am currently looking for a farm that needs a steward and to keep small farms alive!
