Farmer Profile for Nick Kierstead

Please describe your past and/or present farming experience

I am entering my fifth year of farming in 2019, and transitioning into a roll at a different farm. My first two years of farming were in Colorado, on a 400 acre vegetable farm. I was in charge of irrigation, maintenance, and tractor work. I also filled in for harvest, seeding, and planting when necessary. I then returned to New England, where I have spent the previous two years working for Maple Wind Farm. I was in charge of their vegetable production in both 2017 and 2018, and was also tasked with animal care and pasture management. Most recently, I am involved in starting an urban farm in the Old North End of Burlington, Queen City Acres, with my business partner. We specialize in greens production and are entering our third season in production.

Do you have a business plan? Please write an informative description of your vision & goals for your farming future.

I am willing and able to provide a business plan tailored to the property in question. If leasing is the preferred option, I would enjoy sitting down with the landowner to create a comprehensive plan that fits both their, and my, needs.
